From the football pitch to the world's first outdoor space: DEDON
You could say that the story of Dedon begins in a hospital in Munich in 1990. That's when Bobby Dekeyser, the promising young Bayern Munich goalkeeper, recovers from a devastating blow to the face and decides to leave professional sport and pursue his true dream: ‘I just knew I wanted to be a professional, I started Dedon right in the hospital. But the path to today was far from clear from Bobby's hospital. ‘We had no idea what we were going to do,’ he admits. ‘The idea was just to work together with family and friends in a nice environment and create beautiful things together.

A unique DEDON fibre
Handmade patios, raffia giraffes from Madagascar and an ingenious synthetic fibre - the early days of Dedon were a period of exploration - to put it mildly. Only the fibre, which Bobby had developed with his uncle Seppi, an expert in plastic extrusion, had any real promise. Flexible, stylish and durable, it was perfect for the outdoors, Bobby thought. But how to tell the world about it?

Production in Cebu, Philippines
In 1991, the answer came. At a fair in Cologne, Bobby discovered the perfectly woven rattan furniture of a Filipino entrepreneur from Cebu, Philippines. Six days later, with Dedon fibre slung over his shoulder, Bobby boarded a plane to Cebu to dream up his new weave. Soon after, he and his entire family moved to Cebu. When they finally returned home, a full six months later, Dedon was an out-of-town company.

Now, twenty years later, Bobby runs the world's first outdoor furniture brand. Dedon is constantly striving to raise the standard for quality and design in outdoor furniture, still with the aim of working in a pleasant and vibrant outdoor environment.
