Solid teak outdoor furniture

Teak can be classified into different categories depending on where on the tree the teak material comes from. The closer to the core, the finer and richer the teak.

One of the advantages of teak outdoor furniture is that it does not need to be oiled. The material already contains a lot of oil and does not need extra oil to prevent it from rotting. However, it is still beneficial to oil teak furniture to make it more saturated and resistant to stains if the furniture is protected in an outdoor space or under a roof.

Make your teak furniture last longer

Normal maintenance of teak furniture involves washing it regularly with green soap and water to remove stains and other dirt.

At Hulténs, we recommend doing this 3–5 times per season to prevent dirt and grime from sticking. As teak ages, it takes on a silvery-grey appearance if the furniture is not oiled.

New teak furniture comes in a beautiful honey-brown shade that many people recognise and love. It often looks almost polished. The polished appearance comes from the oil that is naturally present in the wood.

The oil on the surface evaporates after a few days outdoors. It is the oil beneath the surface that makes the wood solid, but after a while, teak furniture will take on a stylish silver-grey colour.

This process takes approximately 9–12 months, depending on how much sunlight and rain the teak furniture is exposed to. This process will in no way affect the quality of the teak.

 

A natural material that ages with style.

The older version of teak fits nicely into any outdoor environment, whether it retains its brown colour or takes on a greyish appearance. It is therefore popular with many people, as the furniture is natural and largely maintenance-free.

Teak is a living material. Small cracks may therefore appear in various places on the furniture and disappear again when the weather changes. Such cracks are normal, especially on heavier parts such as armrests and legs.

However, these do not affect the durability or lifespan of teak furniture, but are simply a sign that the natural material is reacting to changing weather conditions.
