Atlas Coffee Table 60x60 Fumed Oak

Named after the Titan condemned to carry the heavens, the Atlas coffee table by John Astbury for New Works channels that same sense of monumental strength – its robust solid oak legs standing boldly beneath a spacious, contrasting tabletop. The interplay between the two elements is the heart of the design, each part amplifying the other to create a distinctly brutalist presence in the living room. Drawing on architectural archetypes – porticoes, colonnades, and the post-and-lintel – combined with the pure geometry of circle and square, Atlas is a table that commands the room and invites people to gather.

New Works was founded by Nikolaj Meier and Knut Bendik Humlevik with the vision of creating a design studio where every product is crafted with care, intention and a desire to explore new creative expressions. Whilst Nikolaj oversees the company’s operations as CEO, Knut leads the creative direction as Creative Director. Together with a dedicated team, they develop a collection of unique yet accessible design objects for the modern home.

New Works operates at the intersection of old and new, light and dark, design and art. The brand draws inspiration from the strong Scandinavian tradition of craftsmanship and material expertise, whilst challenging conventional forms through contemporary design. Through collaborations with internationally recognised designers and craftspeople, products are created that combine sculptural expression with honest and genuine materials.
