The story of Biohort began in the 1970s, when wooden garden sheds were manufactured at the Normstahl factory in Austria. Biohort was founded in 1994, and in 1997 Josef Priglinger acquired 100% of Normstahl's shares in Biohort. By the turn of the millennium, Biohort was already available in most Austrian DIY and hobby shops and was becoming increasingly well known in the German-speaking world, before establishing itself as the market leader throughout Europe.

In the early days, Biohort manufactured various wooden garden sheds, metal composters and planning boards. The Europa garden shed was launched in 1996 and is still a classic that stands the test of time. More and more models followed, and almost every year Biohort presents a new idea. The company also works actively to improve existing products in its range.
