Machiya stool rattan

Designed by Japanese designer Jin Kuramoto, the Machiya stool takes inspiration from the traditional machiya houses of Japan. These wooden houses, built side by side to save space, are characterised by elegant wooden slats on the facade - a design that is reflected in the lines and clever storage shelf of the stool.
The stool is handmade by skilled craftsmen in the durable material rattan. Rattan is an extremely flexible material that can be moulded by hand using steam, following traditional techniques. It is also one of the most durable materials for furniture production, as it regrows in just 5-7 years. At Sika-Design, only the two finest rattan qualities, Tohiti and Manau, are used to ensure the highest standards.
