The name is no coincidence. Mbrace is Sebastian Herkner's declaration of love to craftsmanship – a chair designed as a gesture, like embracing someone. That is the feeling you get when you sit down, and that is the feeling that stays.

Herkner, one of Europe's most acclaimed designers, drew inspiration from the traditional technique of weaving and wanted to create something that was both strong and inviting. Together with world-renowned colourist Giulio Ridolfo, he developed a triaxial weave pattern in Dedon's own fibre – a craft that gives the chair a depth and texture that shifts in different lights. The colour palette is broad and considered, from light and airy tones to deep and dramatic – something for every outdoor environment and personality.

The armchair with teak frame has a warm, natural and Nordic expression. The teak anchors the chair in the organic and gives it a timeless weight that aluminium can never quite replace. The wide backrest envelops the body in a way that feels considered rather than accidental – and the chair is designed to be comfortable even without a cushion, making it just as natural for an early morning as for a long evening.

From the football pitch to the world's leading outdoor furniture brand: DEDON
You could say that the story of Dedon began in a hospital ward in Munich in 1990. It was here that Bobby Dekeyser, the promising young goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, was recovering from a serious blow to the face and decided to give up professional sports and pursue his true dream: ‘I just knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur.’pursue a career in professional sports and instead follow his true dream: ‘I just knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, so I started Dedon right there in the hospital.’But the road to today was far from clear from Bobby's hospital bed. ‘We had no idea what we were going to sell,’ he admits. ‘The idea was simply to work together with family and friends in a pleasant environment and create beautiful things together.’

A unique DEDON fibre
Hand-woven outdoor furniture, raffia giraffes from Madagascar and an ingenious synthetic fibre – the early days of Dedon were a period of exploration, to say the least. Only the fibre, which Bobby had developed with his uncle Seppi, an expert in plastic extrusion, held any real promise. Smooth, attractive and weather-resistant, it was perfect for outdoor furniture, Bobby thought. But how could he convince the world of this?

Production in Cebu, Philippines
The answer came in 1991. At a trade fair in Cologne, Bobby discovered the perfectly woven rattan furniture of a Filipino entrepreneur from Cebu, Philippines. Six days later, with Dedon fibre slung over his shoulder, Bobby was on a plane to Cebu to meet his new friend. Shortly afterwards, he and his entire family moved to Cebu. When they finally returned home six months later, Dedon was an outdoor furniture company.
